Canney encourages public to avail of one shot Covid vaccine at pharmacies

Galway East TD calls on Government to fast-track vaccination for those who awaiting their second dose

The public is being encouraged to avail of the Janssen single dose Covid-19 vaccine which is being offered free of charge from local pharmacies to people aged 50 or over.

Independent Galway East TD Sean Canney is urging people to take up the vaccines which have been available since Monday.

“We are in a race against time to try to get as many people vaccinated as possible before there is a significant outbreak of the Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus,” he said. “We have already seen the UK postpone the reopening of aspects of its economy due to the variant. It is important for as many people as possible to avail of vaccination here as soon as it becomes available.”

Dep Canney [pictured above] is also calling on the HSE to fast-track vaccination for those who are awaiting their second dose, particularly older people and vulnerable groups who originally received the AstraZeneca Vaccine.

“About 420,000 people are waiting for their second AstraZeneca dose which is due to be administered between mid-June and early August,” he said. “I intend to ensure this issue is addressed by the Government in Dáil Eireann this week.”
