A man who was arrested by Gardai and brought before a special court sitting last July in connection with the seizure of a substantial quantity of cocaine and ecstasy tablets on the outskirts of the city, has been remanded on continuing bail following his appearance before Galway District Court last week.
Patrick McGahan (40 ) of 4 Marsden Terrace, Belfast, Co Antrim, is charged with having cocaine in his possession at Dublin Road, Oranmore, on July 25 last and with having the cocaine for sale or supply to another on the same date. He is further charged with having ecstasy tablets in his possession and with having the drugs for sale or supply to another on the same date also. McGahan is also charged with obstructing Garda David Foley on the same date.
Inspector Mick Coppinger informed the court in July that the estimated street value of drugs seized by Gardai was €4,500. The inspector said at the time that the State had no objection to bail provided an independent €5,000 cash surety was lodged in court.
McGahan secured bail in the interim and in court last week, inspector Sean Glynn said he was still awaiting the DPP’s directions in relation to the charges.
Judge Mary Fahy remanded McGahan on continuing bail to December 1 next for DPP’s directions.
