Enjoy a Galway city tour

As we roll into the June Bank Holiday Weekend, we can almost taste the summer, those long bright evenings spent with friends and family, the hustle and bustle of Galway city streets, a drink sitting outside Taaffes as we watch the world go by or the luxury of a 99 from the Bon Bon while sitting on the Prom in Salthill.

Picturing all that, you’d be forgiven for thinking the world was as it once was, and although the prospect of jetting off to an exotic land for a week’s sun, sea and sangria may be off the cards this year we have this wonderful Island we call home offering some of the greatest holiday options around. We are lucky enough to have the greatest little city in the world right here to explore and experience this summer, so is it time to be a tourist in your own town?

Just walking around Galway city, alongside the shopping bags and coffee cups held in the hands of those on the streets on any afternoon, by taking a glance above those heads you will notice some of the most amazing hints to our city’s history dotted on the outside of buildings. With Galway city so rich in history and culture, maybe taking the opportunity to get above head height and see the city from a different perspective is just what the ‘home-town tourist’ needs.

What better way to experience the city from that fresh perspective than to spend an hour as a tourist and hop onto a city sightseeing tour of Galway, relaunching for the 2021 season on Friday June 4. The City Sightseeing Galway is a hop on-hop off, hour long tour of Galway city, taking you on a journey and asking the question, what makes Galway so special?

Starting in Eyre Square passengers get to explore those world-famous sites that many of us are aware of but may not really know, such as; Spanish Arch, Claddagh, Salthill, National University of Ireland Galway and Galway Cathedral. But how about getting an insight into the hidden history behind areas like the Famine Memorial, Fanny Grattan and other interesting characters, Blackrock Diving Tower, Circle of Life Park and the City Gaol to name a few.

Operated by Lally Tours, a local family run tour company, in association with City Sightseeing worldwide, the City Sightseeing Tour of Galway will be welcoming back passengers from Friday June 4 at 9:45am, with departures every 45 minutes from the north side of Eyre Square. With the advantage of each ticket lasting 48 hours you can hop on and off as many times as you like and take the opportunity to really see why so many thousands of tourists find Galway city such a magical place to explore.
