Boxing legend Ricky Hatton is hoping to come to host a top boxing show in Galway by the end of the year.
Galway First has learned that “The Hitman’s” promotional firm Ringside Promotions is planning a major boxing extravaganza in Galway this December following Hatton’s November fight with Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas.
Galway boxers Francis Barrett and Collie Barrett are expected to fight on the night with up to five bouts planned in total.
Ringside Promotions, which is run by Hatton and veteran promoter Ken Purchase, is thought to be in negotiations with a top city centre hotel regarding the event.
Last week it was revealed that Hatton will be making an appearance in the upcoming film Blood, Sweat and Tears, directed by Galway man Stephen P Kenny.
Mr Kenny met with Hatton in England last week to discuss the role and speaking to Galway First last night he confirmed that the boxing legend is planning on bringing a major “fight night” to Galway.
He said, “Four or five fights are planned for the night and a major city hotel is to the host the event. This is 100 per cent definite”.
Meanwhile Francis Barrett, who will also be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming film Blood, Sweat, and Wars, is planning to launch his own boxing promotional company in Galway.
