Harbour Board should withdraw outdoor dining plans, says Cheevers

Councillors says Harbour Board’s plan risks ‘diluting business’ for hospitality sector in the city

The Galway Harbour Board is being asked to withdraw its application to have outdoor dining in the harbour area of the city during the summer months.

The call has come from Fianna Fáil Galway City East councillor, Alan Cheevers, who said “this not the time” to progress such an application, with many hospitality businesses within the city ready to reopen.

“This application by Harbour Board will further dilute business for the rate paying hospitality sector within the city, who need a good summer after what has been a difficult time,” he said.

He also pointed out that the Galway City Council has put together “a comprehensive plan” for outdoor activities for the summer to support such businesses.
