What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Walking, in a far away city at night with my partner, in no hurry.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

People like me didn’t take up a whole lot of space in history books, so I’m coming up blank for this one!

Which living person do you most admire?

My nana, Sheila.

Which is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

I’m obsessive: I get stuck easily.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Weekly therapy.

What is your favourite journey?

The Dart line southbound, where the suburbs burst into the coast.

On what occasion do you lie?

I’d love to say never, but I find some things are best left omitted. I’d rather be a good secret keeper.

Which living person do you most despise?

I try not to carry too much anger. Plus, naming them would break any hexes I have in action.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My partner CB, followed somewhere down the line by the work that I get to do.

When and where were you happiest?

Tokyo, late January, 2020.

Which talent would you most like to have?

To be able to draw. I’d probably trade in the writing for that, if I could.

What is your current state of mind?

Foggy.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Learning to say no.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what do you think it would be?

Nothing sentient. Maybe a peach tree.

What is your most treasured possession?

My great grandmother’s wedding ring, followed closely by my battered and loved Rider Waite tarot deck.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Not being able to help, only witness.

What is your favourite occupation?

Walking, then napping.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Warmth and silliness.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Warmth and silliness.

Who are your favourite writers?

Kelly Link, Karen Russell, Diana Wynne Jones.

What is your motto?

This, or better.
