Galway city councillors are being asked to take part in another round of collaborative discussions with community, voluntary and environmental groups on the City Development Plan 2023-2029.
The call has come from the Galway City Community Network, the network of 150 such groups in the city, ahead of an online, remote meeting, to be held on June 1. This follows a similar discussion between elected members and community groups, which the GCCN described as “very productive”.
The focus of the June 1 meeting will be the report by the Galway City Council chief executive, Brendan McGrath, and recommendations from the community, voluntary, and environmental sectors GCCN represents.
"GCCN will continue to ensure community voices are amplified throughout the process over the coming two years" - Ann Irwin, GCCN co-ordinator
The meeting will seek to present to councillors with the priorities the community, voluntary, and environmental sectors want to see championed in the next stage of the development plan process.
“This early stage of the Development Plan Process is an important one,” said Ann Irwin, GCCN co-ordinator, “given the foundation of the Draft Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029 is set on the initial submissions, the chief executive’s recommendations, and directives from the elected members. GCCN will continue to ensure community voices are amplified throughout the process over the coming two years.”
