In a season packed with late goals, Galway United added another to the collection as Maurice Nugent's header ensured the SSE Airtricity League spoils were divided at Turners Cross.
Jack Baxter's splendid 81st minute strike edged Cork City ahead, but United, who played the second half with 10 men, summoned a gutsy response.
John Caulfield's charges battled admirably following Stephen Walsh's bitterly contested dismissal following a goalmouth scramble which incensed United's players and officials.
United had to defend in resolute fashion initially with Cork setting the tempo, but the visitors did go close twice in the opening period.
In the 21st minute Gary Boylan's cross located Mikey Place, who forced a reflex save from experienced City custodian Mark McNulty.
As the interval approached a deflected David Hurley effort caused brief panic for the locals.
There was a drop of controversy on the stroke of half-time when United's Stephen Walsh was red carded by referee Alan Carey.
After the restart a 54th minute Killian Brouder throw-in found Padraic Cunningham, but his header was deflected out for a corner.
At the opposite end Cork had opportunities too with McGlade going close before Baxter's sweet effort guided Colin Healy's team in front.
Under duress United came thundering back with Boylan supplying the cross for Nugent to level. Character was demonstrated once again. A trip to Tolka Park for a clash against table toppers Shelbourne is United's next mission.
