Billy Clery has stepped down as Galway WFC manager ahead of Saturday's WNL encounter against Athlone Town at Eamonn Deacy Park (2pm ).
The highly regarded Claddagh native was the Galway WFC boss for four and a half years.
A feature of Clery's stint was his willingness and ability to develop promising talent in the west with several promising players contributing for the maroon team.
"Galway WFC has regrettably accepted manager Billy Clery's decision to resign as first team manager," a statement from the club said.
"Clery, who has been in charge of Galway WFC since 2017, steps down due to family commitments.
"During his four and a half years as Galway WFC boss Billy has helped to promote and develop talented footballers in the western region.
"Galway WFC would like to thank Billy for his distinguished service and unending commitment to improving the club both on and off the field.
"The board will meet in the coming days to appoint a new manager."
Since making his League of Ireland debut as a goalscorer for Galway United away to Drogheda United in August 1993, Clery has been involved at various levels of the game Corribside.
Impressive stints with NUI Galway's Collingwood Cup outfit and Galway United underage sides signalled Clery's coaching ability.
Under Clery's stewardship Galway WFC made significant strides in recent campaigns with high hopes attached for the 2021 season.
Rachel Kearns' six goals in four games added dynamism to Galway's attack, but two heavy losses to Wexford Youths and Shelbourne have been disappointing.
Injuries have been a mitigating factor with Kearns unavailable for those matches so Galway will be hoping to produce an improved display this weekend when Athlone visit the west.
