Cregmore school launches major new development

A state of the art sports centre has been unveiled for Cregmore School, with the new construction at the Claregalway school is estimated to cost more than €500,000.

The building will consist of a 600 metre sports hall suitable for three badminton courts, indoor soccer and tennis with additional changin and toilet facilities. Upstairs there will be a modern studio for dance, music and art classes. To the rear of the building three ball alleys and a large playing pitch have also been planned.

School principal, Joe Kennelly said, “The development will be the first of its kind in Ireland, though times are financially challenging I believe that developments such as this should be encouraged and supported by the Government, thus providing much needed facilities and even more importantly providing employment, economic growth and stimulus.”

He continued by saying, “The board of management was no longer willing to accept that the 220 little boys and girls did not have a facility to perform school plays or concerts, attend assemblies, school masses, art exhibitions, physical education classes or numerous other activities.”

The Claregalway prinicpal is welcoming any support from the wider community and should anyone have fundraising ideas or be willing to offer financial assistance it would be genuinely welcomed.
