Four hundred and twenty members of the Defence Forces will converge on Eyre Square this morning at 12 noon. The troops who are being deployed to the UN mission in Chad, will be inspected by the Minister for Defence Willie O’Dea TD and accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Dermot Earley. The lead unit in the battalion is the Irish speaking Chéad Cathlán Cois (1st Infantry Battalion ) from Galway. Also present will be Commandant Maureen O’Brien, the first female deputy commander of an overseas unit. The unit will be deployed to Chad on May 21 to replace the 99th Infantry battalion
