Organisations and “passionate individuals” throughout Galway are being asked to consider taking part in this year's Galway Pride festivities.
The 32nd Galway Pride - the longest continual Pride event in Ireland - will take place from Monday August 9 to Sunday 15 and this year’s theme will be ‘Hope’.
The organisers are keen to hear from community groups, artists, and other groups and walks of life, “who wish to engage with the LGBT+ community, their friends, and families”, through talks, workshops, and events.
'A chance for us to celebrate'
.
"We at Galway Community Pride have been eagerly planning Pride Week 2021 for some time now,” said Galway Pride chair, and Galway City East councillor, Owen Hanley, “but we want to open ourselves to submissions so we can work with organisations rooted in the Galway community to spread new messages.”
Over the past year, Galway Pride has run a number of online Pride events, and Cllr Hanley said it is “more prepared than ever” for online festivities and “how to engage online audiences". There is also some tentative optimism that restrictions will allow for a handful of socially distanced, in-person, events.
“The LGBT+ community has been through an incredibly tough year,” said Cllr Hanley, “so we want to give every chance for us to celebrate, commemorate, and champion our amazing community."
Submissions for events, community projects, or show pieces for Galway Pride 2021 should be emailed to [email protected].
