Hurley nets late winner for United

Galway United defeated Wexford at Eamonn Deacy Park

GALWAY UNITED 1 WEXFORD FC 0

Substitute David Hurley drilled a delightful goal deep into stoppage time as Galway United earned a vital SSE Airtricity League first division win at Eamonn Deacy Park.

It was a cruel finish for a spirited Wexford outfit, who had battled with admirable grit and determination.

United, though, pounced in the closing stages when Conor McCormack's clever pass found Hurley, who rattled the Wexford net.

The former Cobh Ramblers midfielder delivered when it truly counted to ensure United prevailed.

In a tight opening period Wexford defended smartly and with Jack Doherty prominent in attack caused the home team some problems.

John Caulfield's charges did craft chances with Padraic Cunningham and Ruairi Keating going close, but it remained deadlocked at the break.

Late on McCormack demonstrated impressive awareness to supply the pass which enabled Hurley score a goal that injects United's campaign with three precious points.
