The Galway County Council must set up a youth café in Athenry, similar to The Gaff initiative running in Galway city, according to the Green’s Loughrea ward candidate Patrick Creed.
Mr Creed says youth cafés are great non-alcoholic meeting points for young people, give a point of support and advice, and provide activities that keep them out of trouble.
“Coming into the summer season when the schools are on holidays many young people in Athenry have little to do and a youth café would be perfect for a town of its size,” said Mr Creed. “We need to consider the needs of young people in the county and a youth café is a good first step.”
