GMIT’s Department of Computer Science and Applied Physics is inviting primary and secondary schoolchildren to take part in a national art competition called the Robot Art Challenge.
Run in partnership with Munster Technological University (MTU ) and a number of other institutes, the national competition is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and encourages the creative and artistic use of computer-coding logic to draw pictures and patterns.
According Dr Sean Duignan, head of the GMIT Department of Computer Science & Applied Physics, the competition is inspired by the traditional school art competition ideals, which many parents will remember. “It is an excellent opportunity for young people to explore their creative side and to learn some practical and valuable coding skills which they will have for life," he said. "Draw whatever you like, your favourite character, create a fancy pattern, design a house, there is no limit to what you can create.”
