MyHome.ie records increase in Galway property sales during lockdown

The number of properties sold in the first four months of 2021 in Galway is up 2.2 per cent compared to the same stage of last year despite the fact that the country was in lockdown for the whole of that period. Data from the Property Price Register, analysed by property website MyHome.ie, shows that there were 737 sales between January 1 and April 30. This compares with 721 transactions recorded in the county in the same period of last year.

The sale of No 29 College Road is the largest one-off property transaction recorded in Galway so far this year. The property, which is best known for operating as Petra House Bed and Breakfast, sold for €845,000 in March.

While it was the largest one-off transaction, the biggest sale was the €3,215,859.03 paid for 10 units at the Creig Ard development in Roscam. A further €2,863,436.12 was paid for another nine units in the same development.

Other developments at An Garrai Gabhainn in Moycullen, Mount Carmel in Salthill, and Radharc na Greine on the Monivea Road have also sold for seven figure sums so far this year.

Other large one-off sales including that of No 7 Mountpellier Terrace for €830,000, No 8 Ard Na Locha in Bushy Park for €825,000, and No 60 Upper Newcastle in Newcastle for €800,000.

The biggest sale is well below last year's when St Michael's at No 2 Averard West, Taylor's Hill, sold for €1.425 million in October.

So far this year there has been €191.5 million worth of property sold in the county. This is up by more than €10 million compared to the opening four months of 2020 when just shy of €181.1 million had changed hands. This represents an increase of 5.8 per cent.

In total there were 2,359 sales recorded in Galway in the whole of 2020 with just over €589.5 million spent.

The level of interest in property in Galway is reflected by traffic to MyHome.ie with unique page views for properties in the county for the first four months of the year up by 48.1 per cent compared to the same period of 2020.

There are currently 16 new home developments listed for sale on MyHome.ie including An Maolan in Barna, Rinn Dúin in Gort, and several others that are due to come on stream in the coming months.
