The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama has said she will “keep in mind” a visit to Galway and that her staff will be asked to make a note of it.
The Mayor of Galway Pádraig Conneely recently received a letter from Ms Obama regarding the recent St Patrick’s Day event at the White House, which Mayor Conneely attended and at which he asked US President Barack Obama to visit Galway.
In her letter, Ms Obama wrote: “I hope you enjoyed the St Patrick’s Day event as much as we did, I’m glad you could join the celebration. The beautiful gold necklaces and the crest of Galway were such wonderful and thoughtful gifts.
“Also thank you for your invitation to visit Galway, which I have passed to my staff to keep in mind for future opportunities.”
Mayor Conneely told the Galway Advertiser that is he “encouraged by the response” and hopes that it will lead to a visit to the city from Mr and Ms Obama.
