One of the fastest growing areas of County Galway has now a state of the art 4g playing pitch built for the entire community of the twin parishes of Maree and Oranmore, but it is looking for local businesses to get behind it with perimeter advertising.
With a return to training next week, the fantastic pitch at Maree will soon be a hub of activity for the club members and so perimeter signage will receive a lot of exposure.
Next year’s census is likely to show that the population of this area to be close to 10,000. With four primary schools (Three in Oranmore and one in Maree ) and Calasanctius College Oranmore as the local secondary school, the local school going population is now approx 2400.

With a rapidly increasing population, the importance of playing facilities is now more important than ever with the physical and mental health deemed of such importance for all sections of the population. Maree/Oranmore FC is the local community based soccer club which has grown its playing base to 800 spread across 42 teams from u6 to Adult.
The origins of the local club go back to 1989 when the late Brendan Carney established a single adult side. Volunteers like Paul Cowell and Pat Sexton created a forum for young lads to play the game of their choice in both the Maree and Oranmore areas. Today Maree/Oranmore FC has four adult mens sides and a plethora of underage sides for boys and girls.

One of the targets at present is the establishment of an adult women side as the growth in girls numbers has been very significant, and the club now fields girls sides from u6 to u19. The local Maree/Oranmore FC club fields elite and developing sides and caters for all players regardless of ability.
The inclusive policy has allowed the Football For All Programme to grow where boys and girls with special needs are allowed to play the beautiful game. Maree/Oranmore FC have close links with local National League clubs Galway Utd and Galway WFC and local GAA and basketball clubs.The club has close links with our schools especially Calasanctius College Oranmore who have been successful in recent years in National Finals of FAI(schools ) competitions.

“Brampton Care Home Oranmore are our new Academy sponsors from May onwards.We are also grateful for local businesses who have been most helpful. After renting facilities from the helpful Oranmore and Maree community Development Associations since their inception, Maree/Oranmore FC have now built a state of the art club and community 4g facility, and this facility is freely available to the local Maree National school and is used by all sporting codes. It was also used by walkers during lockdown. However, with the club size, the rental of outside facilities is still necessary,” he added.
