Council to meet stakeholders to discuss Corrib lives risk

The Galway City Council will discuss with relevant stakeholders the possibility of organising meetings to combat the loss of life on the River Corrib.

Cllr Clodagh Higgins’ motion for these meetings to explore effective actions that could be taken to improve safety concerns was passed at Monday’s online meeting.

Improving safety and helping to save lives is what Cllr Higgins hopes can be achieved.

“We know about suicides, we don’t need talking shops, we need progress, and we need solutions,” Cllr Higgins said.

Brendan McGrath, Galway City Council chief executive, acknowledged the importance of the motion.

“Every death from suicide is a tragedy,” he commented. “In conjunction with the gardai and other agencies there is a huge amount going on.

“We have continued to engage with all of the stakeholders and agencies.”
