The Galway City Council passed a motion for traffic lights to be installed at the Clybaun Road/Shangort Road junction in Knocknacarra.
Cllr Donal Lyons’ initial motion tabled in January received a response from the Galway City Council.
That reply stated the signalisation of the Clybaun Road/Shangort Road was currently being considered as part of the Galway Cycle Network Stage 2 Project.
Cllr Lyons, though, stated that people remain concerned with the levels of traffic and the motion was carried. “I am delighted with the unanimous support I received when the notice of Motion was discussed at Monday’s Galway City Council meeting,” he said.
”I wasn’t happy with the initial response to the motion so I re-submitted the motion so that it could be heard by the council members. I have received many representations, particularly from cyclists and motorists turning right from the Clybaun Road to Shangort Road, regarding safety at the junction and the very poor sight line at the location.
He concluded: “I hope the executive will take my concerns and the concerns of other council members and install traffic lights at the junction at the earliest opportunity.”
