Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh nominations deadline fast approaching

With over one week to go, the deadline to enter Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh - Galway’s bilingual business award is fast approaching; the closing date for Gradam entries is next Friday April 30.

All that is required at this stage of the Gradam process is to fill in a short application form and after that, the team will be in touch to arrange a virtual meeting with you. You can nominate your own business or nominate another business or organisation for the award. This is a great opportunity to be part o fthe longest running bilingual business award of its kind in Ireland, organised by Gaillimh le Gaeilge in partnership with the Galway Advertiser and with support from TG4 and the Galway Chamber.

There is no cost associated with entering the Gradam. You have four months to prepare as the first round of adjudication will take place in September. Foireann Ghaillimh le Gaeilge will offer you the ‘Gaeilge sa Ghnó/Irish in Business’ service free of charge. This service is a designed bespoke package in which you are guided through the process of adapting some or all your business to bilingualism. The team is currently putting a schedule together and would love to virtually meet with businesses and organisations who are interested in using the Irish language to create a bilingual business.

This year, the total value of the sponsorship for the Gradam is more than €26,000, supported by local sponsors. You can also gain extensive publicity and create a high profile for your business in the Irish and English Language media. The winners and category winners will also receive a beautiful piece of sculpture especially designed by the renowned artist Pádraic Reaney and sponsored by Údarás na Gaeltachta. The Galway Chamber are also providing sponsorship to the overall winner. MOLSCÉAL are also on board again this year.

New category for online businesses

A new category features in this year’s Gradam; ‘Gnó ar Líne | Online Business’ sponsored by the Galway Technology Centre. 2020/2021 saw a substantial increase in the number of businesses who moved online or who increased their online presence due to the pandemic.

This category reflects this new trend and is open for businesses and organisations registered in Galway city and county and who are connecting primarily online with their customers and key stakeholders or leading some online project / campaign. (more details at www.gleg.ie ) Adjudication for this Gradam entry will be based on the use of the Irish language /bilingual work online, which will include website, social media, apps, video, email.

The other four categories are as follows: ‘Retail’ sponsored by Galway Bay FM ‘Tourism and Hospitality’ sponsored by Fáilte Ireland, ‘Services’ sponsored by Video Sherpa ‘Non-profit & Other Companies’ sponsored by Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh.
