Craughwell National School extension moves closer to construction

Work expected to start in the summer if tender contract is approved by Department of Education

The “much needed” extension to Craughwell national school can take place once the Department of Education approves the tender report and the Office of Public Works appoints a contractor.

The extension includes a two-story extension of 1,628sq m to the existing school to replace the prefab classrooms. It will result in eight new classrooms, a general-purpose sports hall, a multipurpose room, administration offices, principal’s office, access lift, toilets, carpark, and a drop off and pick up area.

Once the tender is approved, construction should be able to start in the summer. The news has been welcomed by Independent Galway East TD, Seán Canney.

“This project is long awaited by the community in Craughwell,” he said. “I urge the Department to expedite the approval process and ensure the project is delivered without any further delay.”
