Get grass cutting now before it becomes overgrown, O’Flaherty tells City Council

Cllr Terry O’Flaherty wants the Galway City Council to get started on the seasonal grass cutting before green spaces around the city get too overgrown and unsightly.

“The grass is getting quite long and I am concerned that if they leave it much longer when it’s cut it will create a mess and will be left strewn around the footpaths and the roads,” Cllr O’Flaherty says.

“We have had a real growth spurt recently, particularly during the spell of fine weather that we enjoyed, and you can see the grass beginning to shoot up in the green spaces in our housing estates and elsewhere.

“I have been approached by a number of residents in different areas asking when the grass cutting is going to get under way.

“We are now into the month of April and the city council should get started on the seasonal cutting programme, and I am calling on them not to delay any further.

She concluded: “According to the council’s own website, this grass cutting usually starts in March, depending on the weather and grass growth — and we have had plenty of that, so there is no reason not to get started now.”
