Seán Canney wants twin track vaccination approach

Canney believes gardaí, teachers, and special needs assistants should be prioritised

Independent TD Seán Canney wants the Government to adopt a twin track Covid 19 vaccination rollout.

Canney believes gardaí, teachers, and special needs assistants should be prioritised.

"The high-risk jobs such as gardaí, teachers and special needs assistants could be given the vaccine side by side with the aged-based programme," Mr Canney says.

“There is mounting anger as a result of the U-turn by Government last week when they reneged on a commitment to teachers and gardaí."

“The decision is divisive, and it has created a lot of anger and concern for these cohorts of people in high risk jobs because of the delays."

Mr Canney wants action to be taken quickly. “I am calling on the Government to consider this twin track approach as a matter of urgency”.

“All gardaí, teachers and special needs assistants could be vaccinated in a very short time frame."

He concluded: “There is now a need for the Government to review the arrangements due to the expected increase in supply of the vaccine over the month of April."
