Salthill Garda Station to remain open

'Salthill is not closing, it was never closing, Salthill will be there' says Chief Superintendent

Chief Superintendent Tom Curley has confirmed that Salthill Garda Station will not be closing. The confirmation came at Monday's Galway City Joint Policing Committee meeting.

Independent Galway City West councilor, Donal Lyons, had asked about the future of the station, and noted that assurances had been given that it "would remain open".

"I just want to clarify that because there is some worry in some circles that there may be some changes afoot," he said.

Changes

Chief Superintendent Curley responded that the manner in which gardaí are deployed after business hours might change in the future, but that Salthill station will remain open. "Salthill is not closing, it was never closing, Salthill will be there," the Chief Superintendent explained.

"It may mean that when somebody rings Salthill after six or seven o'clock that call will be redirected somewhere else and will be answered somewhere else," he said. "Still the same service will be given. There will be no change to it."
