Kilrickle Water Supply Scheme to go to tender

TD Sean Canney hails a ‘major milestone in this long running saga’

“A major milestone in this long running saga,” is how Dep Sean Canney has described news that the long-awaited tender for the Kilrickle Water Supply Scheme will go to contractors in April.

The Independent Galway East TD said the tender period will be six weeks, with the evaluation of the tenders taking a further four weeks. Works are expected to begin in September and should take around six months to complete.

“The community in Kilrickle have campaigned for over 30 years to have a basic utility of potable water in their homes,” said Dep Canney. “The major issue causing delays was the lack of a reliable water source. However, following intensive testing, the water source in Cappataggle was deemed suitable with adequate supply for the additional demand.”

Dep Canney thanked the people of Cappataggle for their “community spirit” in agreeing to share their supply with Kilrickle. He said the new supply scheme will also provide a “much-needed supply” to Kilcooley National School.
