'BOY IN The Debs Suit', the new single from Galway indie-punk band Slyrydes, is released today and acts as a taster for the acclaimed quartet's forthcoming debut album.
Fueled by a riff that is equal parts Stooges and early Nirvana, it becomes a quiet/loud meditation on over indulgence, dissapointemnt, and young lives at risk: "The message on Facebook/if you see my brother can you give me a call?" It is grim subject matter, but it is handled with empathy. This may be their most powerful and affecting song to date.
'Boy In The Debs Suit' is the sixth single from the band ('Mental Health', 'Point Of View', 'Out Patience', 'Dangerous Animals', and 'I Claim To Be Intelligent' ), and they have already enjoyed critical acclaim: "Vital music" (The Thin Air ); "Urgent. Brilliant." (Today FM's Paul McLoone ); "a take no prisoners take on post-punk” (The Last Mixed Tape ).
.
Later this year the band will also release their debut album on 12" vinyl and digitally. "In 2020, against many odds, Slyrydes managed to record their Debut album," said the band. "We managed to get into Dan Doherty in Darklands Dublin, in between lockdowns in September 2020. It was a mixture of luck and sheer determination.”
