Every year on March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day, celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The main theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is Choose To Challenge. It is believed that a challenged world is an alert world so we should all try to #ChooseToChallenge in every way we can.
People all over the world have been celebrating International Women’s Day for over 100 years, with the first gathering held in 1911.
Joyce’s Supermarket are proud to have such a strong female workforce with 66% of all management female and 60% of their full workforce being female.
As well as supporting all their female employees, Joyce’s also stock a huge range of products which have been created and developed by women. Take Spotlight Oral Care for example, founded by Galwegians Dr Lisa and Dr. Vanessa Creaven, practicing cosmetic dentists and sisters. As dentists, they know that good oral health is important for your overall health so they created clinically proven, clean, sustainable oral care products that really work.
Another favourite is Bowl-a-Granola, set up in 2012 when owner Siobhán Joyce began making her own granola and muesli because she wanted one that was all natural, wheat-free and wasn’t too sweet. After a while she began selling the homemade granola at Galway’s farmer’s markets. Since then Bowl-a-Granola has grown and is now widely available throughout Ireland.
Or Goyas bakery, set up by Emer Murray who has be providing the people of Galway with delicious cakes and bakes for years and years.
And Lizzy’s Jams and Chutneys which are made with love in Caherlistrane, Co. Galway by Liz Loftus. Liz draws her inspiration from her surroundings using the best local produce.
There are so many incredible brands out there which have amazing, strong women behind them so lets all support them in every way we can.
