Galway Technical Institute (GTI ) is once again leading the way in further education with its launch of an exciting and dynamic suite of courses commencing in September 2021.
GTI's open day will take place virtually this year on Tuesday March 2. Full details of the range of information briefings, student testimonials, online events, and live Q&A sessions can all be found at www.gti.ie
The further education (FE ) sector is now recognised as central to the skills needs of the economy both locally and nationally. The sector, with the backing of SOLAS and the Department of Further, Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science, now caters annually for more than 28,000 students. Statistics have highlighted large numbers of students coming directly from this sector into the third level arena and indeed directly into the workplace. If you are seeking a programme which will set you on a career path, look no further than GTI.
Principal Geraldine Gibbons believes: "For many students the leap from second level into the vastness of third level can be quite a daunting one, even when a young person is sure of what it is they wish to study. With all the uncertainty over the past year, more and more students are now taking an opportunity to step back and explore all of the options that are now available to them in the further education and training sector. Courses which provide a mix of work placements, blended learning, practical and applied learning are capturing the attention of both students and employers.
"A further education course will also provide the IT skills which are now increasingly important to successfully engage in the many online and blended learning platforms which have emerged over the past 12 months. Furthermore, further education courses qualify for SUSI grants and fees are a fraction of that in the third level sector. With the recent expansion in the range of apprenticeships now available, PLC courses are the ideal pathway to a future career or as an entry point to further and third level education and training."
The FE sector caters for a very wide market, from recent school leavers to the mature learner returning to education. Options include art, media, business, beauty, hairdressing, healthcare, sports, IT, and apprenticeship preparatory programmes. New programmes for 2021 include animal care with an emphasis on dog grooming, a logistics and distribution course, marketing, innovation and technology, and law and criminology. The full range of QQI courses can be viewed on the GTI website at www.gti.ie
GTI's online application system is now open. GTI welcomes applications from both school leavers and mature learners who wish to retrain or upskill. Check the GTI website for full details of all courses being offered across all 10 departments. Make things happen for you at GTI in 2021. GTI is a further education and training provider of GRETB (Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board ).
