Maeve Joyce Crehan and Mary Rodgers have been appointed as two new Gaillimh le Gaeilge board members.
Gaillimh le Gaeilge works in association with Galway City Council, Galway Chamber, and other groups to promote the Irish language in Galway city.
Maeve Joyce Crehan has spent her working life in the areas of communications: as an educator, journalist, public relations executive, and general manager. Her work within the Galway business community over the past 20 years has given her a real knowledge of the wants and needs of business, now and into the future.
As part of the team at the Crane Bar, she supports and promotes Galway worldwide as a unique traditional music, language and cultural destination. She looks forward to using her connections and skillset in supporting and promoting the work of Gaillimh le Gaeilge.
Mary Rodgers is the CEO of Galway City Innovation District and works with technology start-ups across Galway and the west to create high value sustainable jobs for the region.
Mary Rodgers’ mother is from Inis Mór and despite having spent many years in the US, Mary’s favourite place in the world is Inis Mór where she escapes to at every opportunity. An enthusiastic Irish speaker, she enjoys incorporating Irish into her business and social life.
Cathaoirleach Ghaillimh le Gaeilge, Bernadette Mullarkey welcomed both new members: “ “I look forward to working with this accomplished and dynamic duo in the coming year as they share their practical experience and valuable skills to drive our vision forward for the future of the Irish language in Galway city,” Ms Mullarkey says. “In this time of change and uncertainty, we have a clear agenda to increase the use of an Ghaeilge in Ireland’s bilingual city.
“It’s important that the Irish language will always continue to thrive in Galway to keep our city at the forefront as the best place to live, visit and invest in.”
