Galway WFC ready for start of friendly games

Galway WFC will face league champions Peamount United in a pre-season friendly at Bealnamulla, Athlone on Sunday afternoon.

Last weekend's first friendly against Bohemians was postponed, but preparations continue for the upcoming campaign which begins on Saturday March 27 at Eamonn Deacy Park against Cork City.

Before then Galway WFC have a series of friendlies of arranged.

"We will be busy with games," Clery says. "We are playing Peamount this weekend, we have a game against Athlone the following week, then Shelbourne.

"We will go down to Athlone to play them again and our final pre-season game is against Treaty United.

"We have five games between now and the start of the season, which is an opportunity for the players to stake their claim for a place in the team."

Clery is encouraged with the reaction of Galway's squad in training with a string of new additions expected to be announced shortly.

"We are really looking forward to it, the girls are happy to be back out on the pitch for our first pre-season game," Clery says. "It is going well, we have great numbers at training. Everyone is buzzing. The intensity has been very good, so we are building up for the first game of the season against Cork which is a month away this weekend."
