GALWAY UNITED 1
FINN HARPS 0
Francely Lomboto's late goal ensured Galway United defeated Finn Harps at Eamonn Deacy Park.
The exciting attacker pounced to score with five minutes remaining for United.
It was a satisfactory afternoon for the locals, who are busy preparing for next month's SSE Airtricity League First Division opener against Shelbourne.
John Caulfield's charges, featuring a raft of new signings, have been training for three weeks and this proved to be a competitive fixture Corribside.
The opening period showcased Finn Harps' power, while former United captain Ryan Connolly offered creativity in the centre of the park.
Ollie Horgan's well organised and imposing outfit had plenty of opportunities early on with Adam Foley and Connolly forcing Conor Kearns to make decent saves.
In the 25th minute Mark Russell's deep cross located Jamie Browne, but his header was narrowly off target.
Padraic Cunningham was a willing frontrunner for United with the Headford native and Colin Kelly both going close before the interval.
After the restart goalmouth action was scarce, but glimpses of Lomboto and Wilson Waweru's potential were evident during a useful workout for both clubs.
Late on Lomboto bagged the winner for the hard working home team.
Next on the pre-season agenda for Galway United is a clash with Sligo Rovers on Wednesday, March 3.
