Moth & Butterfly Festival

A digital feast of storytelling and improvisation this weekend

TRUE STORIES, personal stories, fanciful stories, tall tales, and tales fantastic, some from the heart and some from the top of the head will be heard at the 2021 Moth & Butterfly Festival.

The festival, which takes place tomorrow (Friday February 19 ), Saturday, and Sunday via www.mothandbutterflystories.com It will feature 'Moth' style stories (short, true, thematic, and feature the teller as the central character ); improvised stories created on the spot; free-fall stories (a true story about someone else, a fiction, or a folk tale ).

The Moth & Butterfly team have been running regular monthly events in Galway for the eight years. Órla Mc Govern is the founder and artistic director of Moth & Butterfly.

What is on and when?

Friday February 19 - Tales of The Tale: Liz Weir, Anna-Kaisa Kettunen, Peter Chand, and Órla Mc Govern will tell a folk or fiction tale, with which they have a strong connection (8pm, tickets are €6 )

Saturday 20 - Stories for Children: An hour of stories for children of all ages! Presented in association with The World Storytelling Cafe in Morocco. Hosted by Órla Mc Govern, and featuring John Rowe and Hannah Brailsford (12 noon, donations accepted via tinyurl.com/mandbfestival ).

The Story Chain: Hosted by the veteran Chicago performer, teacher, and improvisor Joe Bill, this participatory event is part story swap, part global café (4pm, donations accepted via tinyurl.com/mandbfestival ).

Moth & Butterfly - The Selection Box!: Stories from Niceol Blue, Catherine Brophy, Monique Burg, Jackie Roantree, Órla Mc Govern, Rebecca Mann, Maria Gillen, Jonathan Pitts (7.30pm, donations accepted via tinyurl.com/mandbfestival ).

Sunday 21 - The Armando: The Armando is a combination of Chicago style long form improvisation and storytelling, taught by Jonathan Pitts. This workshop is suitable for intermediate to advanced improvisers and storytellers. Places are limited (3pm, tickets are €10 ).

International Story Swap: Join Storytellers from across the world, sharing stories based on the theme: 'Fortune Favours The Brave', in association with The World Storytelling Cafe in Morocco (6pm, donations accepted via tinyurl.com/mandbfestival ).
