TWO EXCEPTIONAL pianists, on the cusp of major international careers - Sae Yoon Chon and Dmytro Choni - will perform works by Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninov, and others, at a Music for Galway online concert.
Sae Yoon Chon, winner of the 2018 Dublin International Piano Competition, and Dmytro Choni, winner of Santander International Piano Competition, will feature in a double concert streamed on Sunday February 28 from 3pm.
The performances will be broadcast from Toronto and Graz, where Chon and Choni are continuing their studies. It will open with Chon performing Beethoven's Piano Sonata No 6 in F, Liszt's Spanish Rhapsodie, and Brahms' Piano Sonata No 3 in Fm. Choni will perform Schumann's Novellette in F#m, Scriabin's Sonata No4, Debussy's L’isle joyeuse, and two pieces by Rachmaninov - Daisies and Sonata No2 in Bbm.
About the performers
From South Korea, Sae Yoon Chon has won numerous awards, including at the 2019 Oxford Music Festival, the Verbier Festival in Hong Kong, and others. He has toured internationally, studied under leading Irish pianist, John O’Conor, and worked with Ireland's National Symphony Orchestra.
From Ukraine, Dmytro Choni is a laureate of many well-known competitions and the winner of the First Prize and the Gold Medal at the world-famous Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition 2018 in Spain. He has performed at many prestigious events, and his debut album was released by Naxos in 2020, containing works from the 20th century by Debussy, Ginastera, Ligeti, and Prokofiev.
