Public urged to have say on Galway City Development Plan

Galway City Community Network urges community groups to have their say on the future of the city

The Galway City Community Network, which represents 145 community, voluntary, and environmental groups in Galway, will hold a series of meetings on the Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029.

The development plan seeks to map out the plan for the city, across a range of areas, over a six year period, and the GCCN will host a series of 'town hall' style meetings, via Zoom, to allow the public have their say during the pre-draft consultation process, and to "build a collective voice" to ensure the plan "represents the interests of all communities".

Meeting dates and themes

Community groups in Galway are invited to participate in what will be as series of thematic meetings, organised by the GCCN, during February: Climate action (Wednesday February 3 ); Community, culture, and education (Thursday 4 ); Green network and biodiversity (Monday 8 ); Population growth and housing (Tuesday 9 ); Economic development, employment, and enterprise (Wednesday 10 ); Transport and sustainable mobility (Thursday 11 ); Energy and infrastructure (Thursday 18 ); Built environment and placemaking sustainable neighbourhoods (Monday 22 ); and Older People and people with disabilities.

“Every six years the preparation of a new development plan gives those of us who live and work in Galway an opportunity to have our say in shaping the future of our city," said Brendan Mulligan, a GCCN member and member of the Engineers Ireland West Region. "Let’s all get proactively involved in a meaningful collaboration with Galway City Council and others in making Galway a better, happier, healthier, more prosperous place for us all."

All meetings take place from 6pm to 7pm, and are open to all GCCN members and other interested people, but participants must register via www.galwaycitycommunitynetwork.ie
