Council appoints contractor for Clifden storm water diversion works

Works will reduce the flow of water towards the Low Road in the town

The Galway County Council has appointed a contractor to carry out storm water diversion works in Clifden, with works are due to start in the next week.

When complete, the works will reduce the flow of water towards the Low Road in the town, where a number of homes flooded last September. An Appropriate Assessment has been carried out to allow the works progress without the need for planning.

The works have been welcomed by Fine Gael senator Seán Kyne, who has been working with the county council's director of services, Jim Cullen, to ensure a solution to the flooding of the Low Road is found. He noted that further works to reduce the impact on the Low Road are also being explored by the council.
