Galway WFC has appointed the highly regarded Dave Bell as assistant manager for the upcoming 2021 Women’s National League season.
Billy Clery’s outfit have impressed in recent years with talented emerging players from the west beginning to deliver on the national stage.
Bell stood down from his role as Shelbourne boss following the 2020 campaign and has extensive experience working with Republic of Ireland underage teams.
Clery is delighted that Bell will be involved with Galway in the upcoming months following a coaching career including stints at Bristol City, Cardiff City, Bristol Rovers, Manchester United, Chester City, Morecambe, and the Welsh FA.
“I’m looking forward to working with him and learning from him too because Dave has vast experience at international level, the coach education department in the FAI, and with Shelbourne for the last few years,” Clery says.
“Dave’s philosophy and the way he likes to play lines up with what I want to do here and I’m looking forward to developing a relationship with Dave to improve Galway Women’s FC as a whole.”
Significant potential exists Corribside according to Bell, who is anxious to develop an improving side further.
“Galway have never been too far away,” Bell remarks. “Any time any team plays Galway you know it is going to be a great game. We just want to push it that bit further, we have a chance of finishing in the top three.
“I respect Billy very, very much, he has been very good. Billy has run a great ship here and that is why I was very interested to join him and work underneath him. We hope we can achieve something here,” Bell added.
