Galway GAA legends are providing a valuable service once more making themselves available to talk to people living alone or in need.
The successful initiative was first introduced in April with Brendan Mulry of Irish Rural Link managing the operation in association with Galway GAA, Paul Byrnes Media, and support from the ‘Keep Well’ resilience campaign.
The totemic Cyril Farrell, who steered Galway hurlers to three All Ireland SHC titles, Noel Lane, a player in those successes, Joe Connolly, and John Tobin are among those to have offered assistance.
“We are very lucky to have the likes of Cyril, Joe, John and Noel all on board for this project,” Paul Byrnes says. “They are all legends of the game and are very kindly giving up their time to help.
Galway GAA chairman, Pat Kearney, is adamant about the value of the calls. “This initiative proved to be a great success last year and helped many stuck at home cocooning,” Kearney comments.
“It’s still a very difficult time for everybody so projects like this really help in these uncertain times.”
Brendan Mulry of the Irish Rural Link has urged people to get in touch. “While there aren’t any firm rules, the focus is really on those fans who maybe need this most,” Mulry remarks.
“Think of a parent or grandparent who is at home alone and would love to chat all things GAA with one of our legends.”
