Choosing a university and undergraduate course is never an easy decision. A broad range of factors have to be weighed up, and even then, the best conclusion is not always clear. However, a deciding factor for many people is the employability record of graduates.
DCU has a clear focus on providing its students with those skills to excel in their careers and to thrive in an ever changing world. The university, named The Sunday Times University of the Year for 2021, is currently ranked 19th in the world and first in Ireland for its graduate employment rate, and provides a learning environment focused on innovation and creativity - skill-sets that are highly valued by employers in today’s workplace.
DCU’s five new courses and four new specialisms take this approach even further, by providing students with a radically re-imagined curriculum, that will transform their learning journey through challenge based, immersive learning experiences, final year capstone projects and embedded skills development for future leaders.
The DCU student experience enables its students to realise their full potential, preparing them to flourish both personally and professionally, and to meet the many challenges of modern life.
DCU student testimonial
My name is Deirdre Croghan. I live near the Galway/Roscommon border and I attended Glenamaddy Community School. I am a first year DCU student, studying a Bachelor of Education in Gaeilge with French, German, or Spanish. I chose this course because I want to become a secondary school language teacher. The course is also offered in UL and UCC but I chose DCU for a few reasons. In sixth year, I visited DCU St Patrick’s Campus and I loved the homely and vibrant atmosphere. The structure of the course appeals to me. It includes extensive school placement, and an Erasmus placement. I completed my first semester completely through online live lectures, which I have found to be a positive experience. We chat and interact with our lecturers and classmates, just as we would do if we were in a lecture hall. This has really helped me to get to know my classmates, and we have become great friends. I have joined clubs and societies and attend lots of fun events online, where I have also made new friends. I have access to, and attended, online support and wellbeing sessions offered by DCU Student Support and Development. Overall, attending DCU has been a great experience to-date.
