Mary Hoade appointed to new committee to oversee revitalisation of town centres

Committee will seek to deliver programme for Government commitments on introducing a Town Centres First policy

Local councillor Mary Hoade has been appointed to a new committee to oversee the revitalisation of town centres throughout the State through the Collaborative Town Centre Health Check programme.

A Fianna Fáil councillor on Galway County Council, and the president of the Association of Irish Local Government, Cllr Hoade was appointed to the new group, which is to be chaired by Minister Peter Burke. The committee will work on delivering the programme for Government commitments on introducing a Town Centres First policy. It held its first meeting via conference call last month.

"Local councillors are community champions," said Cllr Hoade. "As public representatives many are heavily involved in regeneration projects. They are a vital component of vibrant towns and villages, bringing a strong voice for local communities. I look forward to working hard to ensure Government delivers the right policies and supports to help deliver regeneration and revitalisation throughout the villages, towns, and cities across Ireland.”
