KATS and Athenry actors to again star in new Opacas video

Galway virtual band to release retro-rock version of 'We Won’t Look Back’, along with video shot in Kinvara

GALWAY VIRTUAL band, The Opacas have again joined forces with actors from the Knocknacarra Amateur Theatre Society and Athenry Drama Group, for a new video - which is released today on YouTube.

The Opacas - Galway based musicians Pat Boyle, Steve Talbot, and Peter Tobin, and Leeds based guitarist Mark Raynor - have recorded a "a retro rock version" of their current single 'We Won’t Look Back’.

The video was shot in Kinvara, prior to the current lockdown, principally at Green's Bar and outside Cuckoo Craft and Design, and features KATS and the Athenry Drama Group actors who also took part with The Opacas' video for ‘She Walks Away’, which was filmed in Athenry. "We want to film our videos in towns outside of Galway city itself because Shop Street does not need another video," says Steve Talbot.

'This is just a Godsend'

For their part, KATS and ADG were only too happy to take part. "COVID has been terrible for amateur theatre groups, so to have an outlet with The Opacas is just great fun," said KATS chair, Linsey Cant. "We have a script emailed to us, then a Zoom call to make sure we are clear on costumes, then we just get in our cars and go. It's quite professionally run."

.

ADG's Shane Murray said: "We’ve all got to know each other while doing these videos and it's great fun to meet up and talk to the other actors between scenes. Ourselves and KATS have lots of plans but right now we cannot do anything due to the Covid restrictions. So getting involved with this is just a Godsend."
