A jazz poet for North Beach Nights

SALENA GODDEN is known to music fans as the lead singer with underground ska/jazz band SaltPeter. She is also a slam poet and the Londoner will be the guest performer at North Beach Nights in The Crane Bar, Sea Road on Monday at 9pm.

Salena’s work has been published in The Guardian, Drawbridge, The Illustrated Ape, Salzburg Review, and The Gay Times. Her fiction and poetry has featured in anthologies like Penguins IC3, Punk Fiction (Picador ) and Dwang, alongside Dan Fante and fellow musician Billy Childish.

According to the great John Cooper Clarke, “Salena is redolent of a young Chet Baker, and that’s not as easy as she makes it seem.”

Poets wishing to take part in the two round Slam should bring along two three-minute poems, preferably memorised. The winner will go towards the Grand Slam in December. The prize for the Grand Slam winner is publication of a collection of her/his work.

Admission is €5/3. The next North Beach Night is on June 22 with guest poet Pete Mullineaux.
