Salthill laneway gets new surface and lights
The laneway between Oaklands and Monksfield is being resurfaced, while ducting for lights along the routs are also set to be installed.
The laneway is a popular shortcut for those attending Mass at Christ The King Church, Salthill, and as a general shortcut into Salthill itself. However in recent years it has fallen into some direr, leading to concerns among locals.
Oaklands Residents Association contacted Fine Gael Galway City West councillor, Clodagh Higgins, regarding the laneway’s uneven surfacing, while the Maples Residents Association contacted her with a view to installing lighting in the interests of safety. “The laneway was in a bad state of disrepair,” said Cllr Higgins, “and was a challenge to people with mobility issues.”
Following representations from Cllr Higgins to City Hall, the laneway will now be fully resurfaced, the costs being supported by the €3.1 million funding package for walking and cycling infrastructure in Galway, which was part of the July Stimulus.
Disturbance in Newcastle
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to an incident which took place in Gaelcarrig Park, Newcastle, on Saturday December 12. An altercation occurred at the estate at 7.35pm.
