Give your home the ultimate festive flavour this Christmas

Christmas is a time when we dress up our homes so they feel a little magical.

From wreaths on the front door, hanging decorations on the Christmas tree and festive ornaments on shelves and mantles, the aim is to add a touch of spectacle which will enchant.

Realising the festive season is a busy one. With that in mind, here are some ideas for Galway Advertiser readers to help create warm and welcoming Christmas decor almost effortlessly easy.

Firstly, every front door deserves a wreath, however, wreaths do not have to be confined to the outdoors.

They can also be brought inside to hang on walls or doors. They make perfect centrepieces when a hurricane lantern is placed in the middle, with a simple pillar candle inside.

The humble wreath can become part of your dining table display, or, taking the same candle idea, use a smaller wreath and place on consoles and side tables, or even on a kitchen island.

Staircases call out to be adorned with all things festive, so consider weaving greenery through banisters and spindles, adding red berries for colour and maybe just the tiniest amount of fairy lights, for sparkle.

While the humble bauble is perfectly at home on the Christmas tree, it also works wonders away from it. Add some festive foliage and think about hanging baubles in clusters from seat backs and door knobs.

Candles are another tool you can use to spread festive cheer to every corner. Though among the simplest of Christmas decorations, candles are capable of magical things.

They can be presented in so many ways, from large pillar candles to the tiniest of tealights, so you can find a place for them in every room of your home.

Strands of fairy lights are another real must in any Christmas scene. Their twinkling bulbs in warm white can make a room quite mesmerising.

Christmas decorations are there to make us smile, so go ahead, play with them and start making those plans to deck your halls.
