•Club Íománaiochta Bearna/Na Forbacha and Barna Football Club will be hosting its celebrations of the GAA’s 125th anniversary this weekend. The party begins on Saturday in the Connemara Coast Hotel with a celebration dance at 10pm (tickets available on the door ). The festivities continues the next day with a special Mass being held in Seipeal Bhearna at 10am where all deceased players and members of the two clubs will be remembered. This will be followed by Lá na gClub at Pairc na bhForbacha where there will be Poc Fada, bouncy castles, face painting, and much more. The weekend will end with teams from both codes of the GAA playing mixed games, ranging from u-14 up to adult.

•Rathun/An Caislean Nua made it two wins in a row after a keenly contested u-14B Championship match with Clarinbridge Monday evening. Clarinbridge got off to a flying start and had racked up a 2-4 to 0-1 lead at half time. However the second half belonged to Rathun with some fine sweeping movements culminating in points from Andy Dunne and Adrian Gannon. When Eanna Thompson latched on to a loose clearance it was the first of three Rathun goals with Mark Browne and the powerful Dunne also hitting the net.

•Maree Oranmore Juvenile Soccer Club, which provides organised soccer for more than 400 children in the parishes of Maree and Oranmore, is holding a family day at the dogs and club awards ceremony on Sunday May 17. That day starts at 2pm with the first of 12 greyhound races to be run off at 10 minute intervals, while the club awards will be presented between races. At 4pm a series of mini blitzs will take place on the rugby pitch. As part of the fun bouncing castles, face-painting, balloons, novelties, music and food will be provided, while one lucky punter on the day will win the Bumper Race Jackpot of €1,500 with five lucky dips of €100 each also available to be won.

•On Sunday the Predator Triathlon Club will be holding its first event of 2009 which will be a running race in the grounds of the Brothers of Charity, Kilcornan Centre, Clarenbridge. Most of the route will be in the grounds or in the local Coiltte forest tracks.The route is ideal for Fit4life runners and all those thinking or training for the Dublin women's mini marathon or even for those who have never run off road.The race starts at 11am with the cost being €10. Prior to the main run there will be a juvenile run of 1km starting at 10.15am.

•The Irish Amateur Weightlifting Association is holding a level one course at NUIG on June 6 and 7. Level two will be examined next year, and anybody interested in obtaining these certificates can contact James O'Toole 086-2359148.

•After Midnight was first to cross the finish line in race one of the O'Tuarisg Cruiser Series at the Galway Bay Sailing Club. After Midnight was followed almost a minute and a half later by Joie de Vie, and i a repeat of last week, both these boats held onto their placings on corrected times. That’s Life crossed the finish line in third position, only to be bumped into fourth place again by Quelle Surprise, who claimed another third place on corrected times. Several boats had to return under engines, some having endured a lengthy calm.
