'We are a community who look out for each other - Joe Greene

"We are a community who look out for each other," says Joe Greene when speaking about Woodquay. The proprietor of Joe Greene's Menswear has been ever present in the area for the past 37 years and says the area has always had a great atmosphere.

"There is just a great buzz about Woodquay. The restaurants, the bars, the cafes, and shops mean a shopper can spend all day here and enjoy themselves. A customer can come into me, have a fitting, then grab a pint in McGinn's or have their dinner in McSwiggans while we carry out the alteration. Parking is readily available in the area and it is easy to get in and to get out of.

"The area continues to improve year on year with its offering to people. Woodquay encapsulates local. I have been here 37 years and I would never leave. It is like a little village in the city."

Greene who runs the business alongside his daughter, Cianna, says buying from and supporting local has never been more important. "Now more than ever, it is important to shop and buy from your local store. I am very conscious of supporting my local businesses and calling on local services when we need them."

The business is looking forward to Christmas and once again, welcoming customers into the store when permitted by the Government. Joe says; "We always look forward to Christmas because it is always a busy time for us. December is a big month for us and many other stores in Galway as a good December makes a good January and February.

"We have used the lockdown period to finalise the last touches to our website which is launching very soon. And while we are very happy to offer our services via another medium, we are very much hoping to see our customers back in store, interacting with them, and assisting in their purchases very soon."
