It's United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities today, and Bus Eireann is driving the message home.
Not all disabilities are visible - as many as 80 per cent of disabilities are invisible, and this year's theme for United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities, #IDPwD20, is people with invisible disabilities.
This week Bus Eireann Galway met with local groups representing people with disabilities ahead of the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Part of Bus Eireann's commitment to customers with special needs is the promotion and use of the JAM card which allows people with a communication barrier to tell others they need ‘Just A Minute’ discreetly and easily.
There are three message options to choose from: 1 ) Please be patient, I have autism; 2 ) Please be patient, I have a learning disability/difficulty; 3 ) Please be patient, I have a condition.
For those with a learning difficulty, autism or any condition where there can be a communication barrier, the JAM Card allows users to relay to others that they may need a little extra time in a simple, effective non-verbal manner.
