City's tennis courts get much needed upgrade

Cllr John Connolly welcomes works that could result in 'attract new participants to try out tennis'

Public tennis courts in the Westside Amenity Park, McGrath’s field in Knocknacarra, as well as Crestwood and Roscam, are undergoing refurbishment works by the Galway City Council.

The works will include the removal of existing surface and replacement with a new asphalt surface, installation of new nets, and application of new court markings.

The renovations have been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Galway City West councillor, John Connolly, who said the current facilities are now "aged and are worn". He said he hopes the refurbished courts will "attract new participants to try out tennis".

“I’m a firm believer that there’s a sport for everyone," he said. "Enabling children to have access to the facilities to sample different sports is important. These tennis courts are in areas across the city thus enabling access to a wide spread of the population.”
