When the time is right: Kylemore Abbey

With level five lockdown restrictions imposed throughout the country until at least December 1, travel and visiting places of interest has had to be put on hold for the time being.

No doubt when the 5km is lifted, we will be eager to get sightseeing once again and with that in mind the Galway Advertiser will be highlighting some of Galway’s wonderful gems over the course of lockdown so readers can add them to the must visit list. First up is the splendid Kylemore Abbey.

With an abbey full of beautifully restored period rooms and a superb visitor experience, Kylemore Abbey is one of most Galway’s beloved and best known tourist attractions and a perfect day out in Connemara. Explore the six-acre Victorian Walled Garden with its stunning herb, flower, and vegetable gardens, take a stroll through the 1,000 acre estate, bursting with lakeshore walks and woodland, or check out the wonderful neoGothic Church, a short stroll from abbey.

There is plenty of fun for the children where they can meet pigs and Connemara ponies and make a wish at the Giant’s Ironing stone.

Kylemore Abbey; a Connemara delight just waiting to be admired.
