Transport Infrastructure Ireland's (TII ) lack of remedying Claregalway's road flooding issues is a sign the organisation does not care, that is the assessment of Independent councillor Jim Cuddy.
Speaking at Tuesday afternoon's Athenry-Oranmore municipal district meeting at County Hall, Cllr Cuddy told the chamber that TII is aware of the village's issues in relation to roads flooding , but is not doing anything to rectify the problems.
He said: "It is an accident waiting to happen and TII don't seem to [care]. In fairness to roads office of [the Galway County Council] they have done their work.
"TII know what the danger is, they know the problem but they aren't doing anything about it. They need to be made accountable."
County caothaoirleach James Charity echoed Cllr Cuddy's sentiments stating he had witnessed cars moving out into oncoming lanes to avoid the water.
He said; "Over the last two weeks, we've had flooding issues. Part of a scheme for Claregalway passed last year, provided for an overflow and draining works.
"When I was watching [the traffic on the road] last week, it was quite bad to see cars veering out. It is dangerous out there.
"Can we look at advancing a short term solution to get the water off the road?"
